5 out of 5 stars Excellent sound quality on a budget   September 2, 2008

I'm very picky about my audio reproduction, and these Denon C751 earbuds do a great job of reproducing the audio from my iPod. They are a great portable substitute for my AKG cans, which don't travel nearly as well as the Denon buds.

Good buy!

5 out of 5 stars It feels great to have made a good choice!   October 25, 2008

I am so thrilled that these little jewels really stay put and cancel out 75mph work van road noise. I have spent way too many hours researching in-ear phones, one day "Denon" popped up (rarely mentioned in HP forums) ..and at a reasonable price. Denon has always been about professional audio engineering and superb builds. I knew I couldn't go wrong.
Love the carry case, noiseless short/long cord set-up and of course the nothing left to be desired accurate sound stage.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Earphones   October 30, 2008

I have to say that these earphones appear to be virtually the same as the C700K except that the 751 has a small and convenient carrying case and an extension cord. Additionally, the 751 seem to end up being around $50.00 to $60.00 cheaper than the actual sale price of the 700. Seems like a no brainer to get the 751. The 700 has no case or extension.

Initially, I did not like the sound of these earphones. Then I got the idea to get some of the Comply "memory foam" tips. Comply makes a number of tips that fit most earphones. The Comply website tells you which model works for your earphone. Generally, I have found that each manufacturor seems to make the earphone tip fit similar on all of the models from the same manufacturor. So if one size Comply memory foam tip fits one model of Sennheiser earphone, it will seemingly fit other pairs of Sennheiser earphones etc.

To get to the point, with the Comply tips, I could achieve a good and comfortable fit that made using the earphones good and gave me a "sealed fit" that ensured a very good bass response. I have to say that these are now among my very favorite earphones. The sound is absolutely superb. If they do not sound good to you when you first listen to them, get the Comply foam tips.

As far as build quality, I believe the Denon earphones are really excellent with very good bass.

5 out of 5 stars The best IEMS < $100   March 21, 2010
Keith A. Brandenburg (Stillwater, OK USA)
JB's review seems spot on. The actual drivers themselves are the same as the AH C700s. These are some amazing ear phones but the burn in period is ridiculous. Never before have I really believed in burn in. 20 hours is just getting started. They will drastically improve past the 60 hour point and then more so. To burn mine in I used a 20 min pink noise clip, alternating with a 1min clip of silence.

I also agree on the supplied tips, I could not get good sound out of them. Thankfully I had some other tips on hand. The Sony EX silicon tips are an excellent match for this earphone, and I have heard some good things about the Comply T400 foam tips. (The Altec Lansing UHP-336 had terrible tips too, I have to wonder about manufacturers supplying such mediocre tips for such expensive earphones.)

The build quality is great on these, very solid earphones with a durable machined aluminum housing. The cabling is not flimsy. I would expect these to last the long haul, but we will see. The cable without the extender is pretty short, I guess it gives the opportunity to use the earphones with clip on mp3 players and such. With the extender I almost find it a bit too long. But I can't complain about such an insignificant detail.

With the price having dropped to $75 and under, I think these are a steal. You just have to keep in mind that they do require some patience in the matters of burn-in and finding a good fit. You will not be disappointed if you give them a chance.

The denon sound signature is fun- it does not sacrifice bass for clarity and detail. Having forward mids, imo, allow one to pick up every whisper from voices. And the top end is sparkly, its magic. Even if I do eventually upgrade, I will keep these babies around.

4 out of 5 stars Same product as the Denon C700, with some added accesories   April 10, 2008

From sites such as [...], I wanted to note that these are apparently the same IEMs as the well-reviewed Denon C700, with some accessories (extension headphone cord, case) included. I would suggest reading reviews for the Denon C700 here and on headfi to aid in your decision.

At the current time the C751s with included accessories are selling for less than the C700, so check the prices for both and choose accordingly.

I will add further details on my impressions on this model (compared to my current Senn CX300) after I have had some more time to evaluate them.

*** Update 04/29/07 - THIRD time trying to update this review, not clear why Amazon keeps ignoring my updates ....

Now that I've had a chance to try the Denon C751 headphones for an extended period, I have to say that I am quite happy with them and recommend them highly for those who prefer the sound signature they provide (see details below).

Build quality - excellent. The phones themselves are made of machined aluminum and appear relatively sturdy for their light weight. The cord is also more substantial than that on some portable headphones I have seen. The cord itself is a "Y" configuration (left and right the same length). The cord is only about 20" long but is supplied with a 35" extension cord (this differs from the C700 which had a longer "main" cord but no extension). I personally like this setup, but of course YMMV.

Sound - First off, THESE MUST HAVE A LONG BURN-IN PERIOD before they reach their potential. On first listen the midrange and lower treble is very forward to the point of being harsh, esp. on material that has a lot of midrange to begin with. After 20 hours or so of burn-in the midrange and lower treble softened up quite a bit.

If fitted properly (this is essential for any IEM), the bass is deep but tight (no boom-boom like my previous pair of Sennheiser CX300s); devoted "bass heads" may want to look elsewhere, however. The midrange and lower treble is still forward but quite listenable, and does an excellent job with vocals. And though my ears are getting a bit old to hear upper treble frequencies, I don't hear anything objectionable in these headphones. These remind me a bit of my Senn HD-595s, though the Denons are still bit more forward-sounding.

Fit - OK at best with the stock plugs. I had a bit of difficulty getting a good seal with any of the stock Denon plugs. This problem was solved by replacing the plugs with those from my old Senn CX300s. Other people (on [...]) suggest Sony or Comply plugs.

Other stuff - The C751 comes with a small zippered case if you case about such things. Microphonics (hearing your footsteps or breathing while wearing IEMs) is present but less noticeable than on my previous CX300s. Due to the ported / open design of the Denons, isolation is not as complete as for other IEMs; someone sitting next to you in a very quiet room *may* be able to hear what you are listening to, and some outside sounds will be evident.

Conclusion - highly recommended. I'm sticking with fours stars due to the burn-in requirement, forward sound that may not appeal to all, mediocre plugs provided.
